From the perspective of a (core) system, peripheral systems are those systems with which integration is required or already exists. Examples of peripherals include solutions for partners, collection and disbursement, input and output management, archiving, commissions, and external services (German Insurance Association GDV, partner validation, fraud detection, etc.).
